Phyllis Vogel Presents:

"So Women Got The Vote. What Did They Do With It?"

Phyllis Vogel grew up on a family farm settled in about 1806 in Ohio. Her family has a long history of community civic service. She met her husband in Cincinnati where she went to nursing school. When attending the University of Cincinnati she collected over 600 signatures for the Equal Rights Amendment which passed in Ohio in 1973.

She belonged to the League of Women of the Greater Cincinnati Area, and after retiring as Nurse Manager, served on the Board. She obtained a Masters from Miami University of Ohio and taught Psychology courses, specializing in Developmental, in classrooms and online as an adjunct professor until 2016.

She has been in Venice since 1996 and became a full-time resident in 2002.  She served on the Board of the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County and as President in 2016-2018. She belonged to Historical Societies in Ross County, Ohio, Anderson Township, a suburb of Cincinnati, and currently is a member of Venice Area Historical Society.  Her four children, their spouses, and her six grandchildren love coming to beautiful Venice.

Due to the COVID-19 Virus, the VAHS Board canceled the remaining Spring 2020 Programs on the topic Women Get the Vote!!! (August 26, 1920) in the interest of the health of our members and the public.  The final program is rescheduled as an online-only video presentation.

Theme for 2020:  "Women Get the Vote."  The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was proposed on June 4, 1919 and became part of the Constitution on August 26, 1920.
